Common computer problems

We live in a time where we rely on our computers for personnel and business when we have problems with our computer we need and want it to be fixed as soon as possible.

You can take care of some problems at home without professional help. Sometimes you will need professional help, but below, you will find a few things that you can do before you call.

  • Run a thorough virus scan-This will always be your first line of defense. To remember is also to make sure that the software is up to date and ready to go. It could take up to a couple of hours to run the scans, but it will be worth the time if you can find the problem.

  • Update your software-Making sure that all of your software is up to date will make everything work better. The software companies do the updates to fix any problems that have been reported to them that could be making things harder or not working correctly.

  • Cut down on the bloat-Think of this as an overstuffed junk drawer that you have in your kitchen. Over time it gets full and needs to be cleaned up some. When you are not using programs or old ones that don't have updates, it can make the operating system work harder and inefficient.

  • Test your Wi-Fi connection-Don't always think that the problem lies in the computer. Sometimes it is with your internet provider. If the computer will not connect to the wifi, but all other devices are, then it could be the computer the best way to check would be to plug the computer into the modem and connect to the internet by wifi. Also, check to make sure that the wifi has not been turned off on your computer. If none of the devices are connecting to the internet, then it could be the router. This would be a good time to call the internet provider.

  • Reinstall the operating system (please only do if you have done it in the past.)-I would use this as a last resort. I would also take a minute to make a call to your computer repair person. If you have not done this in the past and don't back up your information, you could lose the important items on your computer. Please only do this if you have done it in the past.

These are all things that you can try before calling a computer technician if you are comfortable doing it on your own. But remember that you can call a technician with any problem and they should be willing to give you an idea if it is something that needs to be done or if there are some quick things that you can try before bringing it into them.
